School Cancelled Thursday, January 12 - January14 due to Covid Positivity Rate Returning on Tuesday, January 18, 2022

Fairview Families,
We continue to experience significant challenges as a school district due to the current positivity rate of 26.33%. We cannot safely operate our schools due to a rapid increase in the positivity rate among our staff and students. In our school district, we have implemented layered mitigation strategies, including universal masking, throughout this pandemic, however, we cannot safely remain open at this time. The healthcare data we have all received shows that the impact of this virus decreases when vaccinated, however individuals testing positive and resulting in a required quarantine is our reality.
School and all extracurricular activities for the remainder of the week in our school district are cancelled. These days will not be NTI days. NTI requires staff to be in attendance in-person and NTI essentially substitutes in-person instruction days with assignments that students complete at home. This is not what our students or staff need at this time. Although we still have two NTI days remaining for use this school year, our last day for students will be May 23, 2022 based on this decision to cancel school for the remainder of the week. If necessary due to inclement weather, this allows for our district to miss a total of six additional days (2 NTI and 4 regular cancelations) and still end our school year before Memorial Day.
Students and school staff will return to school on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. Monday, January 17, 2022 remains a holiday in our calendar.
I understand that many would appreciate if I would stop communicating with you about missing school and focus my communication on the many positive areas we have to celebrate. There is a plan to do so in the coming days and that plan will stay intact. Again, I am hopeful this will be behind us soon and this will be my last communication with you regarding school closure due to covid. I know it is hard on our Fairview families and I ask that you please understand that these situations are beyond our control in our careful planning and decision making.
Thank you for your continued understanding and flexibility.
Kindest Regards,
Jackie Risden-Smith
