Fairview Social Emotional Learning Framework

One of our district wide goals focuses on the effective implementation of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).

In January, Fairview Elementary educators implemented a new schedule with several changes. One of those changes includes a 30 minute block of time, three days weekly for SEL instruction in every Pre-K through 5th grade classroom. The Core Essentials Curriculum, provided to us by The Big Idea Camp, is utilized with supplemental materials developed by our teachers.

SEL is similar, although still having differences, to what many adults know as character education classes that were part of a traditional public education and have been decreased over the years due to changes to state and national academic expectations for schools.

Educating the “whole” child is important to our educators and crucial for lifelong student success. We’re excited about this intentional focus.

We encourage you to see the informative and short video below on SEL and talk to your children about what they’re learning during their SEL block.
