Fairview Middle/High School Temporary Remote Instruction Days October 21st and October 22nd

Fairview Families,

Thursday, October 21, 2021 and Friday, October 22, 2021, will be Temporary Remote Instruction Days for Middle School and High School students (grades 6-12) due to staff coverage needs throughout the district.

Changes last month with SB1 allows us to utilize "Temporary Remote Instruction (TRI) Days" in situations such as this. The hard work of many on our team has resulted in us not having to utilize these days over the past month since being allowed to do so. However, it is necessary at this time.

Fairview Elementary School will have in-person instruction on Thursday and Friday as usual. The switch to Temporary Remote Instruction at FMS/FHS will allow us the staffing necessary to continue to have elementary students in-person Thursday and Friday.
Guidance received by school districts states defines remote instruction as a method of instruction where teachers and staff facilitate learning for students through digital and non-digital strategies while students are in a location other than the school – likely from home – and where students and instructors are not physically present together in a traditional in-person setting, such as a classroom.

Students will have instructional assignments uploaded by their teachers in their Google classrooms on Thursday and Friday mornings. Students are not required to meet with teachers online, however they must access their Google classrooms each day, complete their assignments on that day, and submit their work on that day in order to be counted present for attendance. Students who do not access, complete, and submit their work on Thursday and Friday will be counted absent for the day. This attendance change is specifically required as a result of SB 1. Students should contact their teacher if they need support or assistance in completing their assignments.

As always, this type of decision is not taken lightly and your understanding is greatly appreciated as we know changes such as this are not always easy for our students and families.

Thank you!
