Steps That Determine Placement for Children With a Communication Disorder

1.  An initial speech and/or language screening that indicates a potential speech or language deficit occurs first.

2. Should a child fail one or both portions of a screening the classroom teacher implements RTI (Response To                         Intervention) modifications for a number of weeks in order to determine if classroom modifications will show
    improvement.

3.  If no progress is noted the child is then referred by the classroom teacher for a speech and/or language evaluation.
